17 - Summer sailing
6/28/2005

Continuing preparation of "Every Day" Part 17

Summer is finally here, but for us it's more like spring, spring cleaning that is. The first part of any project is to prepare the area for the work that needs to be done. We have emptied the boat. All the cushions, plates, salon table, pretty much everything that isn't screwed down and some things that are.

Since the water heater was leaking last fall we are replacing it, another sign of saltwater corrosion. We are replacing the generator as well. With the engine room fairly empty, this is the perfect opportunity to re-seal the engine room floor, thus preparing the space for the new equipment.

We purchased the new carpet for the main salon. This sets the color palette for the cushions. We are very excited about getting rid of the old tired looking blue cushions.

Work in July will start late in the month because we are going sailing for the next couple of weeks and then we will get down to business. This weekend we are racing in the Queens cup, a race from Milwaukee to Muskegon on a Merit 25 then we are back and will be doing the Hook race (the mini mac, 200 nautical mile race from Racine to Sturgeon Bay) on Gadzooks, Capo 26. After the transport back, we will drive up to do the 100 miler, a race on the bay of Green Bay. We will do about 700 miles of sailing over the next couple of weeks.

That's all for this month. Happy sailing everyone.
